Do You Type?

I was at a lunch the other day when the topic of big business and its leadership’s unwillingness to take the Internet by storm and weave its marketing assets (like Facebook, Twitter, and Blasting) into the fiber of their business strategy is startling.

I knew the answer. It’s one of those right in your face, too simple to believe answers. They don’t know how to type.

I got involved with the Internet in the early 1990′s on Compuserve, today’s AOL. As friends ...read more

Please Mr. President, I Don’t Want To Own GM.

I was driving to New York City today on the crowded Long Island expressway with a friend. I started to look at all the cars around us, turned to her and said, “I don’t want to own GM. I sold my jeep last year because I have this large car and felt two vehicles was more than I could handle. I want to return GM and get our money back. Are you with me?”

She looked across at me for a ...read more

Stanford University’s Most Popular Class Ain’t American History.

I have a friend who bats techie things back and forth with me. We got iPhones together a few years ago, both dumped them, and now I’m back with passion and sureness that it’s the phone of the future and my new best friend. I saw her yesterday, and we had words about the fact that I’m back and she has spent $1,000 on her blackberry (Don’t ask. She uses an address program that is from the dark ages of ...read more

Jay Leno’s Legacy

So, last night was Jay Leno’s last Tonight Show. I don’t watch Jay, but I did Tivo the show because I love to cry at things nostalgic. I got my coffee this morning, sat down and wasn’t disappointed in the least.

He is a class act, that Jay, but he also had something to say that is a lesson not exercised today.

He gets to the final segment of the show and mentions that people have been asking him what his legacy ...read more

Middle Class Millionaires

I was on the phone yesterday with a friend who I work with from the west coast who said something about Middle Class Millionaires.

“What the hell is a Middle Class Millionaire?”

“You know what I mean,” he replied. “People who have a few million but don’t fly first class and take the garbage to the curb -Middle Class Millionaires. You know once you start riding business class, you rarely go back to coach. And, once  you move to first class, you ...read more

Western Union: Modern Day Money Launderers

We have to start thinking about Western Union. To show how out of touch I am, I figured they were out of business, or close to it. I would have said they must be hanging on by a thread, possibly part of the bail out so downtrodden are they with the lack of need for wiring things. With email, faxes, and phones reaching across waters previously unreachable, what need is there for Western Union? Silly me.

Did you know…

Last year, US ...read more

Twitter: What the hell is it? And, do I want it?

Congrats to Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone, co-founders of Twitter, on their recent entry to Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world. That’s really something. You can be virtually unknown twelve months ago and one of the 100 most influential people in the world twelve months later. There’s hope for us all. The fact that they are ten years old (ok, I’m exaggerating, but not by much), should not be held against them.

My generation had those same “think ...read more

My To Do List

My to do list is longer than my life span. Sadly, that is not written to be funny, but a simple statement of fact. I sometimes say it out loud on my way somewhere in the car to see how it sounds.

Not only is my To Do List longer than my life span, but unfortunately, it’s written in too many places to be able to manage the triage aspect of what to tackle first. Sometimes I write my to do ...read more

The 3/50 Project

I love this project.

It’s called the 3/50 Project and the premise is really simple. Basically, it’s a to do list with numbers to help local businesses stay in business during this difficult time.

Whenever you break down numbers in a cool way, you actually feel like you can make a difference. I live mostly in the Hamptons in New York. The Hamptons has tons of small businesses that make the Hampton’s character what it is. I can surely make this work here.

Are you kidding me? Mozy needs to change Ad Agencies.

Dear Devin at Mozy,

The following email blast from Devin at Mozy (he’s probably the President, don’t you think?) was sent to me because somewhere I signed up for something that didn’t honor the “we do not give your email address to anyone”.  I was bored today and opened the email. I read this three times trying to find a different way to see it.

Does Mozy really think that the men were worried about their information being backed up while escaping ...read more
